GoDaddy vs DreamHost
In my mind, the two best hosting companies is GoDaddy and DreamHost. Of course, the question must be asked, “which should I use?” Although this question is easily answered, that answer may not be the same for everyone.
GoDaddy is by far the most used hosting company (and domain registrar) out there. It supports virtually anything and everything you need to get your website up and running. They offer very good phone and email support. Domains from GoDaddy generally cost around $10 a year. GoDaddy offers three plans: Economy, Deluxe, and Ultimate. The Economy plan offers 10gb of space and is available for a mere $5 a month. The Deluxe plan is by far GoDaddy’s best offer with 150gb for only $7 a month. The Ultimate plan offers unlimited hosting for $15 a month.
DreamHost is not as popular as GoDaddy, but it is definitely growing! It also supports pretty much everything you need for your website. DreamHost does not offer phone support, only email. DreamHost offers a free domain as long as you use their hosting. Each additional domain (you can have as many as you want on one account) is available for $10 a year. DreamHost only offers one plan. This plan offers unlimited space for your website +50gb extra for backups or whatever else you want to use it for! This plan is only $9 a month.
Both companies have very low rates. However, DreamHost’s $9 unlimited plan totally beats GoDaddy’s $15 unlimited plan. So, if you are planning on using more than 150gb of space or will be having lots of website traffic, DreamHost is probably the best choice for you. If, on the other hand, you will only be needing a little bit of website space and won’t have too much traffic, GoDaddy’s Economy or Deluxe would be a better value. One other thing you might want to consider is DreamHost’s lack of phone support. Although they still offer email support, sometimes that just won’t cut it for people. If you’re new to the web, you may consider choosing GoDaddy just for the 24/7 phone support.
I hope that helps! Like always, this article only reflects my opinion. If you don’t agree with me, that’s fine! I’d love to see what you think about this subject.

Getting an Email Address with Your Domain
In the last post I discussed the advantages of having your own domain name. In today’s post, I am going to go over the advantages of getting an email address for your domain. If you have an email address with your own domain name, your email will not end with the @gmail.com, @yahoo.com, etc.; it will end with @yourdomain.com. It is best to get an email address with your own domain, especially for your business. Why? First of all, it makes your business look more professional. It’s also good because your not tied to the email client you use; you are your own email client!
You can always forward your emails to another other email account, that way you get all your emails in one place. Almost any domain registrar allows you to set up an email account. It’s very easy to do, and doesn’t take long. After you get a domain name, look into getting an email too – you won’t be sorry you did!

Why Having Your Own Domain is So Important
It is possible to get free sub domains for your website. Some people use this for their business, trying to save money. However, this is not a very good idea. Why is having your own domain important then? Well first of all, Google likes it better; so if you want to rank high on search engines, you will probably want one of your own. Also, you will be able to get your own email address. For example, if your domain is example.com, you will be able to get an email address that is: username@example.com. If you have your own domain name, people will be able to remember it better, leading more traffic to your site. These are just a few of the many reasons to purchase your own domain. The good news is, purchasing a domain name is very inexpensive. You are only charged on a yearly basis of about $10-$15. Here are a few places you can register one:
GoDaddy
Active-Domain
Yahoo Domains

Bust A Name
Just the other day, I came across a really cool site. It gave me an idea for today’s post. Bust A Name allows you to type in all the keywords you want for your domain name, and they find all the possible domain names containing those keywords! It’s really cool; I wish I knew about it when I was starting my site. It’s completely free, and lets you choose which domain extensions to search for. You can also find synonyms for your keywords. And, when you’ve found the domain you want, Bust A Name gives you a list of all the places you can register it from, along with the prices! This is a really cool tool for anyone who is trying to find a good domain name.
